Can an African-American, such as Barack Obama, actually be elected in America?

I honestly do think a man such as Obama can win presidency. He has good insights in what's happening in our country. And i think race isn't much of an issue as it use to be in America when segregation was law. He seems like he can do good for this country in this time of need. It is a big possibility that he can get elected.

Civil rights movment

Option 1 - Why is it important to learn about Civil Rights?

Option 2 - What are the best ways to remember Civil Rights leaders?

http://www.blackhistory.noaa.gov/images/civil-rights-pickets.jpg

It's important to learn about civil rights, because you get educated in the past. So later on you won't commit the same mistakes others committed before you.
You learn things about your heritage you never knew before. And you realize how much it took for you to get the freedoms you have today. Learning how to appreciate them a little better. To use them more wisely. It teaches you that you can make a difference. The world can change, it's not impossible.
You just have to be committed and stick to your beliefs. And you can reach the American dream.

Option #1

Describe what you see in this picture. Why do nations create walls? What are the effects of building walls? Why is America continuing to build a bigger border?

I see people with their heads leaning against the wall, maybe trying to find a way in.

Nations create walls to separate the people from entering their country. Or enemies , maybe to make it harder to enter. They isolate themselves from them and treat them like their some type of alien instead of a human being.

And when walls get created, the desperation for them to enter grows. People get angry and create vicious acts against others.

Our boarder that i expanding and becoming more strict abut who enters or not aren't realising the affect that they're causing on the economy. The way they mistreat the immigrants.

Is there still racism in America?

Racism is still an issue in America and quite frankly I think it's always going to be a problem. Things have changed over the years and it's gotten better. But theirs still stereo typing and so. People still discriminate against each other and theirs still violence and crooked cops. We've come a long way but we're still having an issue with racism and poverty. If we want things to change in the long run we have to change the way we look at society and at other ethnicity's. That's what the song is indicating that we do need to change and have a more open mind to things. We're not going to gain anything by killing each other.

When a dream deferres.......

A Dream Deferred - by Langston Hughes
What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

When a dream is deferred it stays in your head and the hunger for it to come true grows. Eventually it explodes and is set in action again but this time with more aggression for it to happen. It haunts you UN till you fulfill it to the last inch. It sinks in your mind UN till it's the only thing left in your head. It becomes a heavy load on you and takes tolls of your days. It lays beside you at night encouraging you for a last fight. A dream is a thing you shouldn't give up on. It's a piece of you and it's a belief. And if you don't acknowledge your dream it will eventually rotten and it will rotten you as well.

The counter culture and the culture?

If you lived during the 1960's, what would life have been like for you? Would you choose to be part of the culture or the counter-culture? I think i would choose to be part of the counter culture. But not a hippie more like an activist and stand up for my rights. I wouldn't agree with the life style people in America assumed was the "American dream", I would want a future. Have a job and not have to relay on others to get food on the table. Everyone has a different dream and that would be mine, to be a strong successful women. Back then they didn't allow many woman attend college. It was more for the men as the women stayed at home and attended things. But i highly would disagree with that and make a statement by protesting or something.

The counter culture and the culture

If you lived during the 1960's, what would life have been like for you? Would you choose to be part of the culture or the counter-culture?

mUSIC

Maybe they'll relate to the song and find words that catch their attention.
So they can have a little insight in the war and be more aware of what happened. A song can clarify a lot for people. Messages get out stronger and louder by putting your message in a song that people can chant and sing. Music has a big influence in the world.

The ideal Family of the 1960's

The ideal American family that people thought represented America well was
an upper middle class. Who was usually white and had a stay at home mom while the father worked. They thought it was best for the mother to attend the children than work. They cooked, cleaned, and took care of the home. They represented men more than woman. Other genders weren't as represented as well like Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, Ect. Not many shows had other ethnicity's on television.

Where Does Racism Come From?

Racism comes from ignorance and stereo typing. It's usually by bad experiences with an other race or sometimes your own. There for judging the rest with your encounters with a particular person. Sometimes racism comes from parenting your kids to believe that a certain group of ethnicity is bad. Kids are very gullible when they're young and there taught to obey their elders. So of course they'll start loathing at an early age and their hatred with progress over time.

what can we learn about Cold War?

Write a paragraph reflection explaining what America could learn from the Cold War.

The cold war started many inventions and advanced our technology. We should definitely learn from the errors we committed. How they take it to the next level and how competitive everyone can be. But the cold war taught everyone many things.

freedom or safety hmm?

In a paragraph, which is more important: freedom or safety?

They're both extremely important but theres always setbacks with safety like for example school.
They limit our freedoms for safety and in some situations it's not fair. I would want more freedom than
worrying about us all the time. Being free is such an important concept it's the main reason for wars.
If it's that important for people to die for it i would choose freedom over safety any day. Because i know I'll have a choice between wrong and right. With no freedom and nothing but rules they'll choose for you.
It takes a person to mess up so they can properly learn what their mistake was.

What does it mean to me

"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." -President John F. Kennedy

It got people thinking in how they can improve where they lived. America gave so much to them that it was time for them to give back. So it opened the people's eyes a little more to the reality of the situation. That's what that quote means to me. It makes me think about how much I've benefited from living here.

If America goes down I go down with America. His saying made people work a little harder I guess.

Guatemala & the United Sates company

The image “http://socialvoice.googlepages.com/arbenz1.gif/arbenz1-full.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
They should have sought out the plan better but through out the years we will make mistakes that effect all of us. Hopefully we'll start being wise and start using what we've learned over the years as a country. We should have been more prepared for the impossible. It's sad to see people perish and have yet another catastrophe occur.
Maybe at the time it seemed like a good idea. That's how all of that starts with than idea than it progresses into a thought a voice and finally an action.

Videos 1-3

Video#1 i think that the video is informing about their bombs/rockets ect.
How Iran is creating new explosives and they seem like they've given much thought
to it all.
Video#2 he traps people with the things he says like saying if you don't value freedom you wouldn't want to go to war. And indeed he wants to go to war. Some speculate that he wants to be remembered in history. Or he wants to cash in with their oil.
Video#3 The president in Iran seemed a little annoyed in the interview. Raising his voice in some of the questions that were threw at him.

capitalism and communism

Communism would be most likely be supported by a person that isn't that wealthy.
They wouldn't have to struggle that much anymore because everyone will be equal.
So they wouldn't have to work twice as hard to get the same income as the middle class. Wealthy people on the other hand wouldn't be so fond of the idea of being equal. When they can just be twice as wealthy with capitalism. So they would favor terrorism. But the thing they have in common is money. It plays a big pat in the decision you make. So if you have plenty of it you would most likely be in favor of capitalism. Not having as much as money but barley making it through your days they would most likely want communism.

The Cold War

option-1
The cold war is harder to fight because ,you have to come up with
things others have never thought of before. It's like a race in who finishes what first
or discovers the thing that will change the world. Everyone's trying to have better technology so they can look more powerful. It was being faught all around the world.
Even till this day countries are having this amens tension. The cold war will never quit stop ,it got so competitive it even went to the moon.

Fear or Love?

-Question is it better to be feared as a ruler or loved?

I think it's better to be loved than feared. A person who fears you will listen but betray
you behind your back , and if you really care for your leader you wouldn't do such
a thing. Therefor you'll be more sincere to your ruler. Terrorist use that as a tactic to gain control. Which works for and against them in the long run. It works for them , because they will not disobey because of fear. But later on they'll get sick of being degraded and over throw him/her.

a tragic day in U.S history

9/11 was a tragic day for everyone not just the new yorkers.
It gave us a reality check , that they can attack any time any place.I know it made me kind of scared and nervous. knowing how ruthless someone can be to kill innocent civilians for revenge.

socail voice??

Social voice to me is a place were you can actually
be heard . Having more of a freedom to say your thought aloud
and to be acknowledged by it.

I want our community to listen to what we have to say
as a whole. Take us seriously and probably take our
opinions in how things should be done and involved them
in our neighborhoods.

Yeah probably they'll listen to us
but if we stay cummited and strong
about what we have to say. They will listen
to us.

We have plenty to say .
We'll talk about different
cultures. Beleifs we have and
we'll share them with every
one who's willing to listen.
